Brew Your Own Compost Tea or Infusion!

How to make Vermicompost Tea - A recipe created by Dr. Elaine Ingham
(This recipe is for 5 gallons of tea and can be extrapolated to larger batches by multiplying all of the amounts. You will need a 5 gallon bucket and an air pump such as an aquarium pump)
  • Place 5 gallons of water in a bucket and aerate it for 24 hours or add 1/2 teaspoon of humic acid to remove the chlorine
  • Pre-dilute 1/2 tablespoon of fish hydrolysate in 1 cup of water and add it to the bucket
  • Mix 1/8 cup of kelp in 1 cup of water before adding the mixture to the bucket
  • Place 1 pound of vermicompost in a micro-mesh bag or wrap it in cheese-cloth. This bag should be suspended in the center of the bucket for the brewing process, above your air source
  • Aerate the compost for 24 hours, which will turn the water into a tea that can be applied to your plants
